A creative practitioner's journal
Making things, figuring it out, and writing it all down.
I spent 20+ years in corporate digital marketing. Then I got laid off, picked up a pencil again, and started rebuilding... creatively and professionally. This is where I write about that: the art, the strategy, the side hustles, and everything in between.

Creating for the Digital & Tangible

I'm Mike Tapia, an illustrator, digital marketer, and recovering corporate professional based in Houston.
I started drawing when I was a kid, detoured into web and marketing for two decades, and I'm finding my way back to the work that actually lights me up.

When I'm not writing here, I'm building creative side projects, hunting for vintage treasures at garage sales, and taking on consulting work for business owners, artists, and makers who need help with the marketing side of things.

The creative in-between.

Every two weeks, three things: what I made, what surprised me, and what I'm figuring out next.

The Creative Brief is a short newsletter about what's actually happening behind the creative process, the wrong turns, and the threads still being pulled. Not a tips digest. Not a growth hack. Just an honest look at what building a creative practice looks like from the inside.

Sent every two weeks. Free. Written by Mike Tapia.
